Ivory (Joshua) – Detroit Riverwalk

Joshua is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever worked with. He has an interest in veterinarian care an avid reader. His mother and Joshua agreed that photographing a portrait session in downtown Detroit would be the best place to get the kind of shots he was looking for. We were all looking forward to getting shots, especially near the Riverwalk area of Detroit.

Joshua 6

Josuah on the Riverwalk. This is where we started first. Josuah loved spending time by this riverwalk, walking, thinking.

Joshua 4

Josua was an avid thinker, and he requested a shot that looked introspective yet direct. Because we wanted his hometown of Detroit in the frame, I sat him on the steps near the “Gateway to Freedom International Memorial to the Underground Railroad.”

Joshua 5

Another shot of Joshua reading. He was an avid reader of the Bible and we positioned him on the railing seperating the Detroit walkway and Detroit River.

Joshua and his mother. The two are very close and a lot of our shots had the two together. This was taken just in front of the Detroit Princess Riverboat.

Not all shots need to show a face to be a portrait. Joshua requested this shot as one of his ideas. The way the sun was shining on his back made it perfect.

As we ended our Dertoit spot we had Joshua sit on the stairway in front of the GM building. I used my wide-angle lens to get him and the entire Renaissance Center in frame.

The final location for our outing (on day 1) was on Belle Island. The fountains, of course, are paramount to this place and we just had to check it out. Here is Joshua sitting on he fountain striking a pose.

We headed towards the conservatory and I managed to get some nice closeups, paying extra attention to the lighting that day as we had harsh shadows from the sun overhead.

Her is Joshua on a wider shot from the same spot as the closup before this.

Joshua and his mother are very close, so we worked out a nice way for him to show her some love in this shot. We were all thrilled as to how this turned out!

We ended the shoot with a family portrait outside of Tiger’s Stadium. This was one of the pictures the family had been envisioning since day one of our photoshoot. Joshua and his family were great to work with!
