Animation Sequences of Little Planets

View complete Little Planets image series.

Below are images, videos, and animated gifs that all relate to patterns found in nature or resemble planets from a microcosmic point of view. It’s important for me to replicate each still image into video and animation formats because I see so much of our visual language pushing towards movement. Videos have in many ways replaced text and photographs because they are so easy to share now and view on our mobile devices.

I value the still image for the power to hold a moment in time. However, each of the works here should be looked at from the perspective of multiplicity and the advantageous parallel of the animation, which adds the value of time.

These images are stacked macro photographs and video animations of marbles created by artist Bill McMurty I was commissioned to photograph and document. The original files are 21MP and videos were originally rendered in 4.5K size. Yes, these need to be large, and traditional video on a rotating device does not suffice for the amount of focus and light I needed when making these.
